A portable career enables an entrepreneur to work from anywhere. Whether working from a home office or coffee shop requires organization. The essential element is the equipment needed to conduct your work, minimally a computer and a smartphone. There is also the opinion a small business can be run using just your smartphone – just search online: running your business from a smartphone.

Whenever I pack a bag to work on-the-go, I also include:

• my paper calendar
• a headset
• a jetpack for secure Wi-Fi
• power cords
• a water bottle, and
• a healthy snack

As a military spouse operating a virtual-based business, I have always worked through each Permanent Change of Station (PCS). The box of office must-haves I pack to take with me includes: important folders, external hard drives, printer, keyboard, mouse, and basic office supplies.
